“The most important thing to do in this is to make sure the audience knows I’m winking at them, I’m really having fun!” – Dwayne Johnson on Fate of the Furious
The Fate of the Furious marks as the eighth film in the mega successful Fast and the Furious series. Beginning in 2001, the franchise has grossed a total of $3.8 billion and counting. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returns as Hobbs for the fourth time opposite “the crew” which includes Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez. This time around, Charlize Theron joins the cast of the Furious, playing a woman who seduces Dom (Diesel) into the dangerous world of terrorism. He can’t seem to escape his new life and in a betrayal to those closest to him, the crew faces the ultimate test.
For this chapter, The Fate of the Furious is directed by F. Gary Gray, who made the action films Set it Off and The Italian Job, and 2015’s sensation Straight Outta Compton. Writers Chris Morgan and Gary Scott Thompson returned to write the script again, as they created the original characters. The large cast also includes Kurt Russell, Tyrese, Scott Eastwood, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, and Helen Mirren. The film was filmed in Cuba, the arctic Barents Sea, and New York City.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood today. He has a total of twelve films being released in the next two years, including San Andreas 2, and the reboots of Big Trouble in Little China, Jumanji, and the highly anticipated Baywatch film later this year. He was also named “Sexiest Man Alive”, to which he says about People Magazine’s choice, “They’re really smart.” He laughs and says, “It’s fun because I get to use it for my own humor.”
Film Inside’s reporter Rachel Kasuch sat down with Johnson to discuss The Fate of the Furious, playing intimidating roles, and the pressures of working on so many movies and projects. They also discuss Terry Crewe’s pec dances and whether or not they battle it out, to which Johnson jokingly says, “I have more pec meat, so there’s no challenge.” To see more of what Johnson has to say about The Fate of the Furious and more, watch the exclusive video interview below.
