The first Indiana Jones film to hit the big screen was 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. This film was a huge box office hit in part due to the winning combination of director Steven Spielberg, producer George Lucas and actor Harrison Ford. It was clear that the fans couldn’t get enough and wanted to see more and in 1984 the second part “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” was released. But even than that wasn’t enough and with 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” they finished the trilogy.
Still yet the fans couldn’t let it be and wanted to see more of the swashbuckling archaeologist Dr. Henry Jones, so the makers decided to bring 2008 a fourth part to the big screen. With “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” Spielberg, Lucas and Ford managed once again to reach mega success. So why not do a fifth part of the series?
And that’s exactly what the talk was for the last 8 years. It finally looks like, that all that talk is turning into reality and the project is a go. Disney confirmed that there will be an “Indiana Jones 5”, but up till now it wasn’t clear who will be back on board. The big surprise they just announced is, that Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will once again be working alongside on the fifth one.
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes of film history and we cannot wait to bring him back to the big screen”, announced Disney CEO Alan Horn in a statement. “It is rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producer and actor. We are looking forward to a new adventure with Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg”.
Unfortunately George Lucas will not be a part of this, but it’s not likely to change anything on the success of this film. The fans have been waiting patiently and eagerly for years – and the suspense is nearly over: “Indiana Jones 5” will finally be in the movie theaters worldwide in July of 2019!
