“It’s a testament also to the individuality to breaking this mentality that we all kinda of have to fit in to what is normal.” – John Boyega on Star Wars and standing up

John Boyega starred in 2015’s smash return of Star Wars in The Force Awakens. Disney reinvented the franchise, and the film quickly soared to become the highest grossing film of all time. It’s been two long years but the time has finally come for the next chapter in the iconic series, The Last Jedi. Boyega played Finn, a rebel who goes from the dark side to the right side along with Rey, played by Daisy Ridley.

The Force Awakens ended with Rey (Daisy Ridley) meeting Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on a mountain top for the first time. Sadly, we lost Han Solo (Harrison Ford) along the way, but in The Last Jedi, Rey and Luke team up together to uncover mysteries of the Force. As Rey enters the new Jedi world she is joined by Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Leia (Carrie Fisher in her last screen performance). Also starring in the film are Adam Drive, Kelly Marie Tran, Gwendolyn Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro. The film is directed by Rian Johnson (Looper).

British actor John Boyega became an overnight sensation after The Force Awakens premiered. Since then, he starred earlier in the year in The Circle opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, and the film Detroit. He will star in the upcoming Pacific Rim Uprising as Jake Pentecost, and will reprise his role as Finn in 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX.

Film Inside’s reporter Rachel Kasuch met with John Boyega to discuss the making of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Boyega discusses going from the dark side to the good side, secret talents, and being a rebel. “Was I a rebel? Hell yea!”, admits Boyega. He tells a story of playing a prank on his math teacher’s book. “It was a tough, hot afternoon and I was under peer pressure at the time. The book had to go.” To see more of what John Boyega has to say about The Force Awakens, watch our exclusive video interview below.
