Logan eyes a $65 million opening, 2017’s biggest by far!

Logan is the highly anticipated Wolverine chapter from the X-Men franchise. This time around, Logan will be R-rated, with graphic violence following the major success of last year’s Deadpool. Hugh Jackman reprises his iconic role, and the film is opening in over 3,900 theaters, with industry projections saying $65 million over the weekend might be what it rakes in. Get Out will sit comfortably at number two and will continue to do well. Here’s a look at what we predict for this weekend’s box office:

1st place will be: Logan. The X-Men franchise is one of the biggest ever in the comic book world, and the most popular character, Wolverine, has had his own mega success. Logan marks as Hugh Jackman’s “last Wolverine movie”. The film holds a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has received much praise for it’s R-rated action sequences. Opening in over 3,900 theaters, Logan is expected to make $65 million over the weekend domestically, and $170 million world wide.

2nd place will be: Get Out. The new horror film made $33 million last weekend, and holds a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Written and directed by Jordan Peele (Key & Peele), Get Out is the much talked about thriller about modern day racism. The film follows an interracial couple Rose (Allison Williams) and Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) who go home to meet her white parents. Strangely enough, Chris learns that many of the black people who to the town mysteriously disappear, and her parents seem to be able to do some hypnotherapy tricks.

3rd place will be: The Shack. The film is based off the New York Times bestselling novel by William P. Young. The Christian story follows a man (Sam Worthington) who mourns the loss of his daughter. He comes across a mysterious shack led by a woman (Octavia Spencer) and he learns how to understand his tragedy and change his life. Tim McGraw and Radha Mitchell costar in the family drama.

4th place will be: Before I Fall. The teen drama follows Samantha (Zoey Deutch) who has a seemingly perfect life; popular, pretty, lots of friends, and a boyfriend. After a mysterious night, she ends up dead, and is then forced to live the same day over and over again ala Groundhog Day to see how one small event can change lives and to unlock the mystery around her death. Jennifer Beals and Liv Hewson costar.

5th place will be: The LEGO Batman Movie. The animated comedy has been a smash, making $134 million so far. Featuring the voices of Will Annett, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Cera, and Jenny Slate, the LEGOs team up with DC Comics to follow the action of Batman with the cutest LEGO Batmobile ever.

Rounding out the top ten will be: 6th place: John Wick Chapter 2, 7th place: Fifty Shades Darker, 8th place: The Great Wall, 9th place: La La Land, and 10th place: Fist Fight.
