“I just want to work with good directors and a good story; a good script, it really just comes down to that.” – Michael Fassbender on Alien: Covenant

Michael Fassbender starred as David the robot in 2012’s Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s follow up to the iconic Alien series which began in 1979. Alien has spawned several sequels, including the much anticipated Alien: Covenant coming out this weekend. Fassbender reprises his role as David and also plays a new character Walter. “We met David in Prometheus and he’s the onboard robot, and Walter is the onboard robot of the Covenant,” explains Fassbender.

Alien: Covenant picks up where Prometheus left off, and before the original Alien began. A crew of a colony ship journey a universe of uncharted territory. When they come across a mysterious planet they discover a life form beyond their imagination, and one that threatens to destroy their lives.

The film also stars Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and Carmen Ejogo. The same writing, producing, and directing team from Prometheus worked on this new chapter of the horror series. Alien: Covenant is one of two major Ridley Scott reboots this year, with Blade Runner 2049 coming out later in the year.

Michael Fassbender’s breakout role was in 2007’s 300. In the last ten years, he has become one of Hollywood’s most sought out actors, with two Oscar nominations under his belt and countless films like Shame, 12 Years a Slave, and Assassin’s Creed. He also has The Snowman coming out later this year.

Film Inside’s reporter Kjersti Flaa met with Michael Fassbender to discuss the making of Alien: Covenant, the idea of extraterrestrial life, and the loss of anonymity from fame. “I just think there’s such a vast expanse out there that it would be weird if we were the only ones there, it would make us seem more arrogant than we already are I suppose,” says Fassbender on whether or not he believes in life in space.
