“I’m good at fighting, watch out!” – Salma Hayek on doing her own stunts in The Hitman’s Bodyguard

Salma Hayek stars in the new action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard. She plays Sonya, the estranged wife of Samuel L. Jackson. The majority of her scenes are filmed in prison, and much of the dialogue was improvised by Hayek, and she even did her own fighting and stunt work. “We didn’t rehearse the day before, I didn’t prepare but guess what, I did it,” says Hayek on her fighting prep. “It was so humiliating for them to see the ‘old lady’, so I said ’No’, and my stunts were amazing.”

The Hitman’s Bodyguard stars Ryan Reynolds as Michael Bryce, a bodyguard who finds himself down in the dumps after he failed to protect an important government official who was shot dead. Two years later, he is protecting shady executives and is living in depression. The villainous Vladislav Dukhovich (Gary Oldman) is on trial for his war crimes and the only man who can bring him to justice is the hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson). Bryce is hired to protect Kincaid, making him a “hitman’s bodyguard”. Both Bryce and Kincaid go on a road trip the leads to hilarious fights and sing-a-longs on the way to protect the world from an evil leader. Kincaid’s wife Sonya (Salma Hayek) is in prison and he goes off course to see her.

Salma Hayek starred in two other big films this year and has more on the way. The Oscar nominated actress was in the hit comedy ‘How to Be a Latin Lover’ and ‘Beatriz at Dinner’. She also lent her voice to ‘Sausage Part’y and will star in the short film ‘The 11th Hour’, written and directed by Jim Sheridan. She will star opposite Alec Baldwin in next year’s anticipated comedy ‘Drunk Parents’.

FilmInside’s reporter Rachel Kasuch sat down with Salma Hayek to talk about the making of The Hitman’s Bodyguard. They discuss stunt work, stalkers, and whether there was a time when she wished she had a bodyguard and didn’t. “I forget that I’m famous,” admits Hayek. “Sometime people come over and go ‘Hi!’, and I go ‘Oh my god where do I know this person from’, and then they start talking about the movies and I go ‘Oh I don’t know this person at all’.” To see more about what Salma Hayek has to say about ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ watch the exclusive video interview below.
